Advanced Knitting: Brioche
Learn to knit this beautiful squishy stitch with us!
In this three-session class, we will examine the 1x1 brioche stitch, and how it looks when knit in one and two colours. Understanding how the stitch is made will help identify problems and how to fix mistakes in brioche. Other skills you will learn: make one right/left knit, make one right/left purl and best practices for weaving in ends in a brioche fabric.
We will start with a practice swatch in the first class, and learn to knit one-colour brioche. The second class covers two-colour brioche, with a third class to go over mistakes and examine other types of “brioche” fabrics commonly used in the fashion industry. Each stage of learning will be applied to knitting the Lemonade and Brioche scarf, designed by Susan @knit_frog_repeat. It’s a beginner friendly accessory that can be worn as a neckerchief, bandana or as a headband. As a small project, it’s the perfect way to start your brioche knitting practice.
Skill Level: firm understanding of the knit stitch, purl stitch, and 1x1 rib. Familiar with longtail cast-on.
Please bring: a copy of the pattern, practice yarn (two solid colours, approx. 30 g each colour), needles and notions listed in the pattern, and enough yarn for the size you have chosen to knit.
Pattern: “Lemonade and Brioche” designed by Susan Chin, available through Ravelry.
Homework: bring listed materials, notebook and pen if you want to take additional notes.
Please note the classroom is upstairs (14 steps).

Susan was a fantastic teacher!
It was hard to grasp at first but Susan’s method of teaching how to read your stitches and how to fix your mistakes was invaluable. All her samples really showed the wide variety of looks brioche knitting can have. Thanks again Susan
