Intermediate Knitting - Level 2: Knitting Your First Sock

This is a learn to knit your first sock class. The class is meant for intermediate knitters, and is assumed you already know how to knit, purl, cast on, and knit in the round. You will learn the construction of a sock knit from the cuff down to the toe on double pointed needles. If you are familiar with, and prefer to knit on, circular needles using the magic loop method you are welcome to use this, but the instructor prefers to use double pointed needles, especially around the heel.

You will be casting on with a loose cast on, ribbing the cuff, and knitting in the round for the leg and foot. You will also be knitting short rows, decreasing, picking up stitches and using kitchener stitch to close off the toe (these will be taught if you are not familiar with the techniques).

Skills Level Needed: Intermediate Kitting - Level 1

  • Very comfortable with both k and p stitches, and can cast on.
  • Know how to knit in the round, using double pointed needles (method used in class) or magic loop. 9" circulars can be used for the leg and foot, but you will need DPN's or a needle for magic loop for the heel and toe.
  • Understand how to read a pattern.

Please bring:

  • a 100g skein of fingering weight yarn (preferably with 20-25% nylon incorporated)
  • a set of four 2.5mm double pointed needles (see note above with regard to circular needles)
  • a stitch marker if using circular needles
  • a darning needle will be required for the final class, when you will be closing the toe

Some work may need to be completed between classes so you are ready to learn the next stage in the pattern.

The pattern will be provided.

Susan is the best!

Course: Intermediate Knitting - Level 4: Thrummed Mittens

I really liked that the classes were small and I think there should be 3 classes for the thrummed mitts instead of 2

The instructor was great she explained everything really good.

Susan is a great instructor and very knowledgeable. I think 3 classes were required for this project as most of us didn’t manage to finish one mitten therefore practicing all the steps needed to complete the project

Susan was very patient and helpful throughout! She also provided some extra help for a few of us that needed. However I feel the class should have been longer, either extend the time of each class or add another day. The Trummed mittens are not an easy or fast project!
I did enjoy the space at Numana and the welcoming atmosphere!!
