Project Class: First Yoke Sweater

Yoke sweaters are knitted top-down (from neckline to hem) that often features decorative stitching or colourwork in the upper section of the sweater. It’s a popular way to knit a sweater as the construction allows for makers to check for fit by trying on their sweater at various stages of the knitting.
If you’re ready to venture into knitting your first yoke sweater or would benefit from knitting with a group, join us for this six-week class. We’ll be knitting Tin Can Knits’ Love Note sweater for the class. The pattern includes a large range of sizes and worked over a large gauge. The pattern can be purchased separately or as an add on during registration.
The class takes place over six sessions. On the first day, we’ll cover swatch considerations and how to work a crocheted provisional cast-on. Day 2/6 will cover how to read a lace chart pattern, a few tips on reading your knitted fabric and ways to keep track of your progress. Over the next three sessions, we’ll knit alongside one another, as we work through the yoke, divide for sleeves, knit to the end of the body and start the sleeves. In the final session, we’ll finish the neckline, review weaving in ends and talk about blocking along with a few additional finishing tips.
Skill Level: familiar with the basics in knitting (k, p, CO, BO), how to decrease (k2tog, ssk), how to increase (M1) and have completed a small-medium in-the-round project on your own.
Materials Required:
FIRST SESSION: copy of the pattern, yarn, needle sizes as indicated in the pattern (bring a few sizes, should a different needle size suit your personal knitting tension better), and a crochet hook in a similar size to the needles you’ll use.
Homework: bring MATERIALS REQUIRED and a notebook and pen (optional) if you want to take additional notes.
NOTE: Please be aware that our classroom is upstairs (14 steps).
