Knit and Crochet Class Levels

We’ve designed our classes to assist individuals in the learning process. Each level guides makers through different techniques to build on skills acquired in a previous session. When enrolling in a class, we recommend choosing the level best suited to your current skill that would continue the growth of your knitting or crochet practice. Below is an outline of each level from Beginner to Advanced. Please take your time to determine what would meet your next learning adventure next.

BEGINNER LEVELS

Level 1: suitable for those with no experience or have learned it many years ago and would be starting as a new knitter/crocheter again.

Level 2: comfortably work a knitted CO and BO, and both a k and p stitch in knitting. Comfortable with making slip knots, ch and sc stitches in crochet.

Level 3: have enough experience with Beginner level II skills and ready to learn basic knitted/crocheted increases and decreases.

INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

Level 1: have successfully completed small-medium sized projects, worked flat and know how to read and follow beginner friendly level patterns. Ready to learn how to knit/crochet in the round.

Level 2: have enough experience with Intermediate level I skills and ready to learn new COs and BOs, easy textured stitches and further your ability to read your knitted fabric; learn how to crochet in flat rounds, several seaming methods to join squares together and best practices when crocheting a Granny Square.

Level 3 and onwards: have successfully completed small-medium sized projects that uses skills from Beginner levels I, II and III and Intermediate levels I and II. Comfortable reading, following beginner – easy intermediate patterns and successfully completing the project(s).

ADVANCED LEVELS

Once you’ve learned the skills covered in our Beginner to Intermediate levels, and you are ready for something new to challenge your knitting skills, these classes cover specific skills in knitting. We currently offer Brioche knitting, and colourwork using Intarsia classes.

PLEASE NOTE!

  • Read through the description of each class listing.
  • Be sure you have the skills listed in the “Skill Level” section of each class listing.
  • When deciding if a class is a suitable next level to enrol in, a quick way to confirm if this would be a good class to enrol in, is to read through the list of stitches used in the exercise/project used in the class. If there are more 2-3 stitches listed that you do not know (and can work comfortably), the class may be more involved than you are ready for at this time.
  • If you need help before the start of a class series, you have the option to book additional focused one on one learning time to pick up any skill needed to successfully enrol and complete a class you have your eye on. Please contact the store.
  • If you find during a class series you would like additional help to stay on pace with the class, one on one learning sessions are available to assist with your needs by contacting the store.

Where possible, we would like to ensure participants take on new skills covered in each class, and have a successful learning experience at our shop. We believe enrolling in a class that’s a good fit (not too advanced or too easy) offers the best skill building process in your making journey.
